The Rochester Knighthawks and Roots Box Lacrosse have teamed up again to offer a third season of the Roots Youth Box Lacrosse League (YBLL). Rochester’s premier youth box lacrosse league, the eight-week program offers a unique experience with a strong focus on teaching the fundamentals of the box game and gaining game experience.
Sessions will be held Monday evenings between Nov. 1 and Dec. 20 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Tri-County Sports Complex, located at 856 Walworth-Penfield Road in Macedon. There is one exception. During the first week, based on each team, practices will be held either Nov. 1 or Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Players will compete across four different age-based divisions (3rd-4th grade, 5th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade and 9th-10th grade), featuring two box training sessions and six games, concluding with playoffs and a championship game.
The league features the best box lacrosse coaches in Rochester with a mix of current and former National Lacrosse League (NLL) players and other local box experts. Coaches include NLL standouts like Brad Gillies (Halifax Thunderbirds), and Rochester Knighthawks Dan Coates, Mike Manley and Ryland Rees. In addition, the all-star coaching staff returns NLL Hall of Famer Pat Cougevan of the original Knighthawks franchise, past Knighthawks draft pick and former Syracuse star Bradley Voigt, and the Premier Lacrosse League’s Jake Pulver (Cannons) and Donny Moss (Chrome). This season, local coaches in the YBLL are lacrosse legends, including Jacques Monte, Cory Holbrough and Jordan Jarvis.
For $275, players will receive a Knighthawks/Roots practice jersey, championship team T-shirts for division winners, and MVP awards. Only 60 spots per age group will be offered, including four goaltenders who can register free of charge. Registration is now open at https://rootsboxlacrosse.leagueapps.com/leagues.
Additionally, the YBLL will have a dedicated website to access team stats, standings, and other information throughout the season. All games are officiated by United States Box Lacrosse Association (USBOXLA) certified referees, allowing all participants an opportunity to fully showcase their skills in a fun and safe box environment.
