(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Knighthawks have been showing out this summer and last week was no different. There are 18 Knighthawks playing in the following leagues: the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), Major Series Lacrosse (MSL), the Can-Am Lacrosse League (CALL), and the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).
Cam MacLeod is also playing for England in the European Box Lacrosse Championship this week. So far, he has put up a dominant first-half performance against the Netherlands, allowing one goal on 13 shots. He also played in an overtime thriller against Finland, finishing the game with 45 saves. The group stages finish at the beginning of this week, with play-in games on Tuesday.
MSL:
Two more Knighthawks joined the MSL ranks at the end of June. Nathan Kapp is now taking faceoffs for the Oakville Rock. Thomas McConvey was released by the Waterdogs over the weekend and immediately went back to Senior “A” with the Brampton Excelsiors.

He was on fire back in the box; McConvey notched four goals and seven points in his MSL debut. Knighthawks teammate Josh Medeiros was just behind him with a hat trick and a five-point night. They led the Excelsiors to their second win of the season over the Cobourg Kodiaks. They sit at 2-8 but still have eight games remaining to play. McConvey could be just the jumpstart they need to be a competitive squad.
Ryan Smith also put up a five-point night in his most recent game for the Chiefs. He bagged a goal and added four helpers to lead the Six Nations against Brooklin on June 27. Smith currently ranks 15th in the league for points with 11 goals and 13 assists in seven games.
Ryan Lanchbury has had a similar impact with Peterborough to McConvey in Brampton. The Lakers’ offense was searching for a quarterback, and now they have it. He spoke after his first game.
In game one, he put up two goals and two assists. Last time out against Brooklin, he had a quintessential Lanchbury stat line: no goals and six assists. Brad McCulley also put up a strong performance in that game, bagging three assists and a goal. With that win, the Lakers move up to third in the MSL standings, behind Oakville and Six Nations.
PLL:
The PLL All-Star rosters were announced before the league went to San Diego this weekend. Three Knighthawks were chosen as starters: Jake Piseno, Mitchell Dunham, and Blaze Riorden.

Piseno and Graydon Hogg’s teams came out on top on Saturday. The Denver Outlaws topped the Maryland Whipsnakes 13-7 and the Boston Cannons beat the California Redwoods at home, 15-12. Piseno notched an assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover with only seven touches. Hogg scored one goal in transition, as he continues to add from the midfield for Boston.
On Sunday, Connor Fields, Dunham, and Riorden were on the opposite side of the result. The Archers fell to the Waterdogs 11-10; Fields scored the last goal of the game, bringing Utah within one, but they couldn’t win the following faceoff. Philadelphia held on for the final seconds and pulled out the one-goal win. Riorden also lost by one goal. The Chaos fell 14-13 to the Redwoods. Riorden made 15 saves and kept his streak alive with over a 50 percent save percentage in every game this season.
Senior “B”:
Last week we talked about Zed Williams putting on a show, notching three goals and three assists in three games as well as earning a fight win. This week, though, he made those stats look mundane. In his last two games with the Allegany Arrows, Williams has scored nine goals and nine assists. The Arrows rank third in the Can-Am at 12-7 behind Tonawanda and Newtown.
