The Brighton Bruins (3-4) carried an 8-2 lead into halftime before cruising to a 12-3 victory over the Penfield Patriots (4-5) in girls lacrosse on Monday, Apr. 24.
Brighton’s win snaps a four-game losing skid this season. The Bruins have won six of the last seven games against Penfield since 2019, which includes both games last spring. Dating back to 2006, the Bruins have a 12-4 mark versus the Patriots.
Senior and leading point-getter Elise Murphy, who was named to D&C All-Greater Rochester Super 16 Team in 2022, paced the Bruins offensively as she totaled five goals and two assists. With her third hat trick of the spring and season-high seven points, the Stanford University commit has registered a multi-point effort in six of her first seven games this season and 35 of 40 in her career.
Junior Lucy Lederman and sophomore Ireland Mistretta, both of whom were named to the All-League Second Team last year, each scored three goals while juniors Anthea Hayslip (1+0) and Sidonie Murphy (0+1) both recorded one point apiece.
Sophomore goaltender Lauren Russell evened her record to 3-3 as she made three saves in 50 minutes. In 16 career games, Russell shows a 7-9 record and has allowed less than four goals seven times.
Brighton scored eight goals in the first half and four in the second while limiting Penfield to just three goals en route to a 12-3 victory. The Bruins have scored double digits in goals three times this season while also holding opponents under four goals in each of those three contests. Penfield’s three goals were a season low as well as the fewest amount they have scored versus the Bruins.
Brighton will look for its fourth win of the season as they host Pittsford on Wednesday, April 26 at 7:15 p.m. Penfield, meanwhile, hopes to avoid its second straight loss on Wednesday, April 26 as they head to Rush-Henrietta for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Next week’s High School’s Game of the Week will feature the top-two teams in Monroe Country-1 as Pittsford Panthers and Victor Blue Devils face-off in boy’s lacrosse on Tuesday, May 2 for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Pittsford High School.
