The Victor Blue Devils High School boy’s lacrosse team (1-0) took a 10-2 lead into the first half versus the Brighton High School Bruins (0-2) on Tuesday night before securing a 16-4 victory at Brighton High School.
GAME SUMMARYThe Blue Devils, who posted a 13-2 finish in 2021 and have won 20 of their last 22 games dating back to 2019, were led by Thomas Gravino (5+1) and Jack Herendeen (2+4) as both tallied six points each. Pax Marshall (3+0), Ethan Lischerelli (2+0), Kyle Saeger (2+0), and Ryan Dodge (1+1) all recorded multi-point games while Joe Hawryschuk completed the scoring. Sam Gotham added an assist while goaltenders Brady Robinson (1+0) and Zach Pavia combined to allow just four goals in 48 minutes.
Brighton, which suffered its second loss of the season after dropping a 7-5 decision to Hamburg on Saturday, saw TJ Carl (2+0), Cal Oberst (1+0) and Aksel Stanat (1+0) all find the scoresheet, respectively. Netminder Thomas D’Angelo made 16 saves but suffered the loss.
Victor jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening quarter as Saeger tallied a pair of goals and Marshall and Herendeen each found the back of the net.
Brighton got on the board with Stanat’s marker at the 5:35 mark but the Blue Devils, who have dominated the local lacrosse scene in recent years, winning an unprecedented six straight Section V titles between 2014 and 2019, erupted for six straight goals to take a 10-1 advantage in the final 2:30 of the half.
Carl and Oberst each scored in-between a Gravino goal to make it an 11-3 score midway through the third, but Victor countered back with five unanswered goals before the end of the third.
The Bruins added their final goal of the night with Carl’s second, but the marker proved to be the final one as Victor earned a 16-4 victory to begin the 2021 campaign.
Victor will face-off with Spencerport on Thursday April 7 while Brighton will look to secure its first win of the season as they travel to Penfield on Thursday.
