The Webster Thomas Titans stormed out to a 6-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back as they cruised to a dominating 17-3 win over the Webster Schroeder Warriors in the only meeting of the season between the cross-town foes Wednesday night in boys high school lacrosse action.
The win improved the Titans to 3-0 on the season with Thomas reaching the 14-goal mark for the third straight game while outscoring its opposition by a 46-14 margin to begin the 2021 campaign. More impressively, the Titans have held their opponents to two goals or less in 11 of 12 quarters of play this season, including keeping Schroeder off the board in three quarters tonight. It was also the first time this season that Thomas didn’t allow a goal in back-to-back quarters.
Junior attackman Evan Pashalidis single-handedly outscored the Warriors with a team-high six goals on the night while senior midfielder Ryan Prine chipped in seven assists for Thomas, which has won six of its last seven games dating back to the 2019 season.
All three of Schroeder’s goals came in the second quarter, including two from leading point-getter and junior midfielder Nick Hauman. Brady Ruffalo rounded out the scoring for the Warriors while senior goaltender Jack Leach made nine saves despite taking the loss.
Thomas came out flying on all cylinders, scoring early and often on their way to building a 6-0 first-quarter lead with two goals each from Pashalidis, David Petz and Nathan Hoban.
The regional rivals traded three goals each in the second frame, including a pair from Hauman, marking the first time this season the Titans yielded three goals to an opponent in a single quarter as Thomas took a 9-3 advantage into halftime.
It was wrath of the Titans, however, in the second half as Thomas reeled off eight straight unanswered goals over the game’s final 24 minutes to claim the battle of Webster and extend their season-opening win streak to three straight games.
Thomas looks for its fourth straight win on Saturday, May 8 with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Fairport while the Warriors clash with Pittsford on Friday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m.
