The Upstate Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (UCBLL) announced today that registration is open for the 2024 season. The UCBLL is a National Collegiate Box Series-affiliated league designed to give college-age athletes a chance to hone their skills, gain valuable experience, and help them take their game to the next level.
The league is open to current high school seniors to college seniors (including 5th-year college eligibility). However, if you do not play for or attend a collegiate team and are a high-level box lacrosse player, you must be between 17-23 years old to be eligible to play in the UCBLL.
The 2024 UCBLL Combine will be held on Thursday, May 30, in Buffalo and Rochester. Rink locations and times are TBD. The season runs from June through July, with games and practices held Monday through Thursday nights. The four teams in the UCBLL will participate in eight practices and eight regular-season games.
The teams are coached by current and former National Lacrosse League players, including Chris Cloutier and Ian MacKay of the Buffalo Bandits, and Ethan O’Connor and Ryland Rees of the Rochester Knighthawks. Former Knighthawks defenseman Ron Cogan also coaches the Armory in the UCBLL.
The league, which has teams in Buffalo and Rochester, is among the most successful in the NCBS circuit. Not only have teams advanced to the playoffs of the NCBS National Championships in three straight campaigns, but the UCBLL has seen 10 of its players selected in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. In 2023, Kaleb Benedict, Luke Pilcher, Jake Piseno and Kellen Pulera were chosen in the draft.
