A six-goal second quarter pushed the Hawkeyes (3-1) past the Buffaloes (0-4) on their way to a 13-7 win on Wednesday night at Segar & Sciortino Field at The Blue Cross Arena. The contest marked the halfway point of the Upstate College Box Lacrosse League.
The Hawkeyes offense was led by forwards Spencer Bell (3+1) and Koleton Marquis (3+3) as they both had three-goal nights, while forward Mason Homer (2+2) had himself a two-goal effort. Conner Fingar (1+3) and Carson Colucci (1+1) both saw multi-point nights, while forwards Mitch Pfeiffer (1+0), Gavin Hill (1+0) and Justin Blodgett (1+0) added a tally apiece. To round out the scoring, forwards Trevor Hill (0+1) and Nicholas Miller (0+1) and Hunter Goodman tacked on helpers.
Liam Keane (2+0), Nathan Maloney (2+1) and Xavier Taylor (3+0) steered the Buffaloes offense with multi-goal efforts, while forwards/defensemen Thomas Aniol (0+1), Vincent Fiorella (0+1), Henry Popko (0+2), Talon Welch (0+1) and Drew Westmorland (0+1) added the assists on the night.
Buffaloes goaltender Gage Stevens got his first start of the season in the crease and suffered the loss as he made 42 saves on the 55 shots he faced.
In the first quarter, both teams combined for just four goals, with the Buffaloes knocking in three of those markers to have a two-goal lead heading into the second and two of their tallies coming on special teams. Taylor capitalized on the power-play for the Buffaloes with 8:06 to go in the first, while Maloney snuck in a shorthanded goal to make the score 3-1.
As the second quarter ensued, the Hawkeyes began their comeback just 1:14 in and never looked back as they lit the lamp four consecutive times.

Like the Buffaloes in the first quarter, the Hawkeyes found success on their special teams within this four-goal run with a power-play marker and shorthanded tally, respectively. Both Marquis and Bell tacked on two tallies apiece to kick off their multi-goal efforts.
The Buffaloes scored twice in the second quarter, however, the Hawkeyes found the back of the net twice more as well before heading in the half up 7-5.
Keeping the momentum going from the second, the Buffaloes opened up the third quarter with another pair of goals to move the score to 7-7. Both Keane and Taylor provided the final two tallies on the night for the Buffaloes before the Hawkeyes closed out the contest on a six-goal run.
With 8:47 to go in the third quarter, the Hawkeyes were lights out as they took their second and final lead of the night’s contest.
The Hawkeyes were able to find two tallies in the third quarter before shutting out the Buffaloes with a four-goal final stanza. The Hawkeyes knocked in a pair of shorthanded markers by Colucci and Bell, while Marquis finished up his three-goal night.
The Upstate College Box Lacrosse League’s next game is set for Monday, July 12 at 6 p.m. as the Armory and Hawkeyes matchup at Segar & Sciortino Field at The Blue Cross Arena.
