(San Diego, CA) … The Rochester Knighthawks (2-9) opened their two-game western road swing on the wrong end of a lopsided 19-6 loss to the San Diego Seals (6-6) Saturday at Pechanga Arena in southern California.
GAME SUMMARY
Curtis Knight (2+4) led Rochester’s offense as he factored in on all six Knighthawks goals, scoring twice and assisting on the four others. Turner Evans (1+1), Cam Milligan (1+1), Ryland Rees (1+2) and Holden Cattoni (1+1) all added a goal apiece, while still putting in multi-point efforts with at least one helper. Rylan Hartley made his fourth consecutive start in the crease, stopping 34 of the 49 shots he faced before being replaced in the third quarter by Craig Wende, who logged 21:05 and made 19 stops on 22 shots on goal.
Casey Jackson (5+2) had a night for the Seals as he was just one goal shy of a sock trick and added two assists to boot. Both Zack Greer (3+5) and Connor Fields (3+3) would notch hat tricks on the night, while Greer, Wesley Berg (2+6) and Kyle Buchanan (2+6) would have eight-point nights each for the Seals, who have won three straight and five of their last six games. Austin Staats (2+5), Jeremy Noble (1+2) and Matt Sykes (1+0) would combine for four goals to round out the scoring for San Diego. Frank Scigliano would log most of the time in the net for the Seals, making 25 stops on 31 shots on goal, while Nick Damude came in for some fourth quarter action and made four saves on all shots he faced.
WATCH: GAME HIGHLIGHTS
As San Diego headed into halftime with an 11-5 lead, they would almost hold Rochester completely silent once the second half hit with the Knighthawks scoring just once over the final 30 minutes.
Rees would be the lone Knighthawk to find the back of the net in the second half of play with a goal early on in the third quarter. It would be a pass sent from Knight directly in front of the crease that would send the Knighthawks transition man through the air, enabling him to skip in his fourth marker on the year.
San Diego would then go on to score the remaining six goals of the contest and raise the score in its favor to 19-6.
Evans made his return to San Diego known early as the former Seal got the Knighthawks on the board first with a goal just 2:32 into the contest. On a pass near the restraining line, Evans forced his way through the San Diego defense to notch the first tally of the night and give Rochester an early 1-0 lead.
After the Seals would go on a three-goal run, Knight netted his first of the game with 4:16 remaining in the opening frame when he received a cross-floor pass from Evans by the boards and wired in a shot for his first of the night to bring the Knighthawks back to within a goal.
In the second, the Knighthawks would score three more goals with Cattoni, Knight and Milligan all contributing within the frame.
Cattoni would be the one to hit first as just 47 seconds into the second he unleashed the Knighthawks’ 20th power-play goal on the year with an absolute laser past the San Diego netminder. After a two-goal run by the Seals, Knight would notch his second of the night on some back and forth passing between himself, Cattoni and Dan Michel (0+1), resulting in his 15th goal of the season.
San Diego would then go on another three-goal run before Rochester found the back of the net once more before heading into the half. Milligan, who joined the Knighthawks earlier in the week and spent time in the previous Knighthawks franchise, was credited with his first goal of the year in his season debut as Rochester went into halftime trailing 11-6.
The Seals took over in the second half, outscoring Rochester by an 8-1 margin on their way to a 19-6 victory.
Rochester completes its two-game western road swing on Sunday, March 8 when they clash with the Colorado Mammoth in downtown Denver for the only time this season. Game time is slated for a 7:00 p.m. ET start at Pepsi Center and will be carried live on 107.3 FM The Bull as well as B/R Live.
