(Rochester, NY) – Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has signed forward Mark Cockerton to a practice player contract. The move is pending league approval.
Cockerton, 28, joins the Knighthawks after spending the 2018-19 season with the New England Black Wolves of the National Lacrosse League (NLL), who selected him in the first round (6th overall) of the 2014 NLL Entry Draft. In 11 games, he scored three goals, one assist and collected 33 loose balls.
The Oshawa, Ontario, native has appeared in 25 career games in the NLL, recording 33 points (15+18) and 87 loose balls while registering 96 shots on goal between the former Rochester Knighthawks franchise and New England from 2015-2018.
Cockerton has also spent time in each of the last six years with the Boston Cannons, Ohio Machine and Rochester Rattlers of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL), tallying 117 goals in 48 games and winning the 2017 championship with Ohio.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound forward also played four seasons at the University of Virginia (NCAA), recording 125 goals and 32 assists for 157 points in 63 career games with the Cavaliers. Cockerton was a two time USULA Third-Team All-American as well as a two-time All-ACC selection.
The Knighthawks are back in action following the bye week on Friday, Jan. 31 when they travel to KeyBank Center to take on the Buffalo Bandits in the first of three matchups between the two teams this season. Game time is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start and can be heard live on 107.3 FM The Bull as well as B/R Live.
