The Jr. Knighthawks teams won six of their seven games on Day One of the Jr. NLL Tournament in Oakville, Ontario. The Jr. Knighthawks are competing at the U13 (Pee Wee), U15 (Bantam), and U17 (Midget) levels.
“Great start for our teams,” said Jr. Knighthawks Director and Coach Brad Gillies. “They competed hard and got contributions from everyone. I am excited for tomorrow’s games.”
The Jr. Knighthawks are tied for first place in the U13 Blue Division with the Jr. Rock. The U13 team opened the tournament with a convincing 15-2 win over the Jr. Thunderbirds. The Rochester team improved to 2-0 by defeating the Jr. Wings 14-6. Maddox Harding leads the Jr. Knighthawks with six goals and 11 points. He is also second in the tournament in goals and tied for second in points. Benjamin Miller has earned both wins in between the pipes.
After beating the Jr. Thunderbirds and Jr. Mammoth, the Jr. Knighthawks are 2-0 at the U15 level. Rochester is tied with the Jr. Rock for first in the Blue Division. Dycen Nanticoke has a team-leading seven goals and 11 points after two games, while Liam West leads the club with five assists. Rhys Reynolds backstopped the Jr. Knighthawks to both wins.
The Jr. Knighthawks’ U17 team captured its first two games on Friday, knocking off the Jr. Black Bears 9-7 and then taking down the Jr. Bandits 7-2. The Jr. Knighthawks dropped the nightcap to the Jr. Rock and are currently tied for second place. Elyas John leads Rochester in goals (four) and points (eight), while Darris Jones has a team-best five assists.
The Jr. Knighthawks return to action on Saturday morning. The U13 and U15 teams will battle the Jr. Rock in showdowns for first place. The U13 game is slated for 9:00 a.m., and the U15 will face off at 10:00 a.m. The U17 team will battle the Jr. Roughnecks at 11:00 a.m. All the games will take place at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.
