The NLL season may be over for the Knighthawks, but the summer lacrosse season is in full swing. Most players have started their seasons now, with a few still taking time off before getting into their summer season.

17 Knighthawks are playing in the following leagues: the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), Major Series Lacrosse (MSL), the Can-Am Lacrosse League (CALL), and the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).

PLL:

The PLL has played two weekends so far, with games in Utah and Rhode Island. Every team in the league is 1-1. The Utah Archers hosted the opening weekend on May 8 and 9, and multiple Knighthawks showed out for them.

Connor Fields scored four goals and added one assist for five points in the opening weekend. One of his goals in game two was good enough to take the fifth spot on SportsCenter.

Mitchell Dunham made his PLL debut in the same pair of games and was the best defender on the field. He caused eight turnovers in two games with the Archers and scooped up four ground balls in each contest. He leads the league in caused turnovers; the second player on the list is three behind him.

Dunham isn’t the only Knighthawks swinging for yard sales this summer. Jake Piseno got a big one in the Denver Outlaws’ 10-9 win over the California Redwoods on May 16. So far this season, he’s racked up three caused turnovers and five groundballs while still searching for his first goal of the summer.

Blaze Riorden made his PLL season debut in Rhode Island on May 15 after returning from paternity leave. He made eight saves and allowed five goals in 24 minutes.

MSL:

Knighthawks players are on four different teams in Major Series Lacrosse, Canada’s East Coast Senior “A” league. The Six Nations Chiefs already appear to be the favorites; they’ve played two more games than anyone else in the league and are 3-0.

Ryan Smith has been a key to that, ranking sixth on the team in points with 10 on four goals and six assists in three games. He’s joined in the locker room by NLL teammate Tyler Biles, who’s already notched two assists in three games. Smith bagged one goal in the season-opening shutout of the Owen Sound Northstars. It was all him, causing a turnover, scooping the loose ball, and then driving to the net for the finish.

The Brampton Excelsiors and the Peterborough Lakers have each only played one game. Five Knighthawks play on those two squads. Josh Medeiros scored a goal in the Excelsiors season opener while Riley Hutchcraft played the first half in net. For Peterborough, Matt Gilray scored in the season opener, playing with Adam Thistlethwaite.

Senior “B”:

Two Knighthawks are playing Senior “B” this summer, and both are showing out.

Cam MacLeod has played two games so far for the Edmonton Miners, who lead the league with a 3-0 record. MacLeod played all but the season opener and has made 58 saves in two games while allowing only 4.50 goals against per game.

Taylor Jensen is playing his second summer with the Tonawanda Braves. He uses the summer as an opportunity to create as much transition as possible. That’s allowed him to tally four goals and 10 assists in nine games while the team has a 5-4 record. On May 21, he scored a determined goal, driving to the crease and diving across the goalmouth to bury over the left shoulder of the netminder.
