(Rochester, NY)… We’re closing in on the end of the summer lacrosse season. Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) has crowned its champion, the Six Nations Chiefs. The Premier Lacrosse League playoffs started last week with one Knighthawk eliminated and four remaining on three different teams. Meanwhile, in Senior “B” action, the Presidents Cup is officially underway, and one Knighthawk is playing in the tournament.

MSL:

The Six Nations Chiefs topped the Peterborough Lakers in six games, capping it off with a 10-3 win on Sunday, Aug. 30. Game Six was the first of the series where the road team came out on top. Newest Knighthawk, Drew Hutchison, got the start in net for the Lakers. He made 55 saves, but the offense couldn’t find their way past Doug Jamieson of the Chiefs.

Ryan Smith had a goal and an assist, finishing the finals series with eight goals and eight assists. Ryan Lanchbury tied him in points with six goals and 10 assists in those six games. Shonwahnonkon Thompson played in three games of the series. He played in the first game and the final two; the Chiefs topped the Lakers by six in two of those games and by seven in the other, allowing five goals or fewer in all three games.

The Chiefs will now prepare for a matchup with the Coquitlam Adanacs starting on Sept. 11 for the Mann Cup.

PLL:

The Premier Lacrosse League played its opening playoff round last weekend. The Denver Outlaws and Jake Piseno pulled out a close 15-14 win over the California Redwoods. Piseno was quiet but still caused a turnover and scooped up one ground ball while only getting five touches in the game.

Graydon Hogg and the Boston Cannons topped Nathan Kapp and the Maryland Whipsnakes in the second game of the weekend. Kapp went 10-for-20 at the faceoff dot against Andrew McMeekin. It was only the third time this season the faceoff specialist was held below .500, winning eight of 17.

Kapp made a post following his PLL debut against Philadelphia.

Despite Kapp winning the faceoff battle for Maryland, Boston scored four of the first five goals of the game and sat comfortably in the driver’s seat through regulation.

The semifinals are officially set. On Sept. 7 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Denver Outlaws will face Connor Fields, Mitchell Dunham, and the Utah Archers while the Boston Cannons will face the Philadelphia Waterdogs.

PRESIDENTS CUP:

Cam MacLeod is the lone Knighthawk playing in the Presidents Cup this summer. He’s backstopping the tournament hosts, the Edmonton Sr. Miners. He made 42 saves in Game One, helping his team earn the win 12-5 over the Ladner Pioneers. They will play each day in a round-robin format until a champion is crowned on Sept. 5. Game Two is slated against the Winnipeg Blizzard.
