(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Knighthawks have been showing out this summer, with 18 Knighthawks playing in the following leagues: the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), Major Series Lacrosse (MSL), the Can-Am Lacrosse League (CALL), and the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).

MSL:

Only five games remain in the MSL regular season. It’s a battle between three teams for the final two spots in the MSL playoffs.

The Peterborough Lakers currently sit in third at 9-7 with two games remaining in their regular season. With goal differential, they should be all but secured in their playoff spot. The question will be whether they have to play Six Nations or Oakville in their opening round of the playoffs. The Chiefs have secured the top spot in the tournament. With two games left, their worst possible record would still put them well ahead of Oakville.

Three Knighthawks rank in the Top 25 scorers in the league. Thomas McConvey has only played in nine games for the Brampton Excelsiors but has really hit the ground running. He currently ranks third in the league with 5.33 points per game. His 25 goals and 23 assists put him ninth in the league in points while playing fewer games than all but one player in the Top 15.

Ryan Smith is the favorite of the Knighthawks to reach and compete for a Mann Cup this summer. He currently ranks 15th in the league in points with 18 goals and 22 assists in 14 games. Ryan Lanchbury ranks 25th in the league in scoring. While playing only eight games, he has notched seven goals and 25 assists.

PLL:

There was plenty to watch from the PLL this weekend with two games on Friday and three on Saturday. Multiple Knighthawks played two games over the weekend.

Jake Piseno faced off against Connor Fields and Mitchell Dunham to start the weekend off as the Utah Archers faced the Denver Outlaws. The Archers came out with a five-goal win, but Piseno had one of his best games of the season for the Outlaws. He caused three turnovers, scooped up five groundballs, and scored a two-point goal, but Utah never gave Denver a chance to get in the driver’s seat, winning 16-11.

The Boston Cannons and the Carolina Chaos played the best game of the weekend. Graydon Hogg and Blaze Riorden went head-to-head in an overtime thriller. Neither team led by more than two goals at any point in the match, and a major factor in that was Riorden’s performance in the cage. He made 20 saves and allowed 12 goals for a .645 save percentage. In that game, he made his 1,300th career professional save. The Chaos intercepted a clear and scored the game-winning goal only 13 seconds into overtime.

Saturday evening was a show from Fields, as he led the Archers with a hat trick over the Maryland Whipsnakes to finish his weekend with three goals and two assists. Dunham finished the weekend with two caused turnovers and five groundballs.

Senior “B”:

The Tonawanda Braves and the Allegany Arrows faced off in a five-game series throughout the last week in the Can-Am playoffs. The Arrows took Game One before the Braves won three straight to claim their spot in the finals against the Newtown Golden Eagles.

In those four games, Taylor Jensen scored four goals and added three assists. Zed Williams played in six games in his playoff run, facing Oil Springs and then Tonawanda. He posted the second most points in the playoffs with 29 on five goals and 24 assists. He did that while coming out of the defensive door for Allegany in its final three games.

The Edmonton Sr. Miners finished a sweep of the Fort Saskatchewan Sr. Rebels on Saturday. It was the final series in Cam MacLeod’s rest period after the Euros in Prague. He will be back with the Miners in the RMLL Finals against the Rockyview Knights.
