Colin Duncan (2+4) and Dominic Hoch (3+0) helped the Churchville-Chili Saints (3-12) to a 9-8 victory over the Greece Storm (6-9) in a back-and-forth affair in high school boy’s lacrosse action Thursday evening.
Churchville-Chili’s win gives them three wins over its last five games to begin the final month of the season. Additionally, it was the Saints’ first victory against the Greece Storm as they reversed a 9-8 score last spring.
Along with Duncan and Hoch, Brock Osborne (2+0), Jaxon Leonard (0+3) and Max McKay (1+1) also posted multi-point performances for Churchville-Chili. Sean Levey (1+0) and Cameron Gefell (0+1) both added one point on a goal and an assist, respectively.
Goaltender Bradley Shaw made 11 saves in his 13th appearance of the slate to improve to 2-11.
Matthew Ranalletta (1+2) topped all Storm scorers with three points while Andrew Hill, Aiden Early, and James Maccallini all tallied a pair of goals. Noah Kozak (1+0) and Carter Fabian (0+1) got on the scoresheet as they produced one point each.
Goaltender Jonathan Bucciarelli, who entered the contest showing a 6-8 record, made 17 saves in the defeat.
After seeing the Storm score three goals to grab a 5-4 lead in the second quarter, Houch and Duncan both tallied a marker to restore the Saints’ one-goal advantage to close the first half.
In the second half, the teams went goal for goal as they each totaled three tallies to finish off the 9-8 score.
Hill, Early and Maccallini all scored for Greece while McKay and Houch (twice) both found the back of the net for Churchville-Chili.
The Saints opened the scoring in the first quarter with a pair of goals only to have Early cut into the deficit.
Churchville-Chili responded 18 seconds later to push its advantage to 3-1 before the schools traded goals to conclude the first quarter scoring.
While Greece, who scored three unanswered goals after trailing 4-2, scored six times, Churchville-Chill totaled five tallies to earn the 9-8 victory.
The Saints will look for their fourth victory of the season as they host the Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars on Saturday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. to close out the campaign. Greece will wrap up its season on Saturday, May 20 when the Gates-Chili Spartans visit Greece Olympia at 1:00 p.m.
