With the game tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter, Canandaigua Academy went on a massive 11-goal run on their way to a dominating 15-6 win over the Fairport Raiders Friday in boy’s high school lacrosse action.
The win improves top-ranked Canandaigua to 9-0 on the season, keeping the Braves, who have won 15 of their last 16 games dating back to the 2019 season, atop the Section V standings.
Junior midfielder Jaxon Grant led the way with a team-high four goals while senior midfielder Spin Blazak notched a hat trick. Canandaigua’s 15 goals were the most in a single game this season and the most since putting up 17 nearly two years ago to the day in a 17-2 win over Spencerport on May 22, 2019.
Seniors Kole Stuver and Rob Crawley each scored twice in the loss for Fairport, which snapped the team’s brief two-game win streak.
The teams were deadlocked at 3-3 following a back-and-forth opening frame, but the Braves took over in the second, outscoring their hosts 3-0 to ignite an 11-goal run, including a highlight reel goal from Blazak in the final second. Blazak was the recipient of a long-range Hail Mary pass from Canandaigua goaltender Jack Faiola and he found the back of the net on the ensuing transition with a second to spare to send the Braves into halftime with a 6-3 advantage.
Canandaigua, playing just its third game of the season at home, carried the momentum into the second half, quickly putting the game out of reach with seven more unanswered goals in the third quarter to move in front 13-3.
The Braves widened the gap even further in the opening minutes of the final frame to take their largest lead of the night before Fairport was able to stop the bleeding.
The teams exchanged three more goals in the final eight minutes of the contest, but the deficit proved to be insurmountable for the Raiders to overcome.
Canandaigua looks to make it 10 straight wins as it puts its undefeated season on the line against McQuaid Jesuit on Monday, May 24 in the second of a season-long three-game homestand while Fairport is idle until it visits Hilton on Wednesday, May 26.
