Sophomores Maeve Brennan (4+1) and Emma McGuigan (2+2) combined for nine points, including six goals, as the Irondequoit Eagles pushed their win streak to a season-long five straight games with a 15-9 win over the Honeoye Falls-Lima (HFL) Cougars in girl’s lacrosse action Tuesday night.
The five straight wins marks Irondequoit’s longest win streak since the team reeled off 11 straight from April 17 to May 18 during the 2019 season. It was also Irondequoit’s fifth win in 18 meetings with HFL dating back to the 2006 season.
Brennan and McGuigan continued to showcase why they’re one of the top offensive duos in Section V with Brennan posting her second five-point outing in three games to remain the Eagles’ top point-getter and McGuigan earning her fourth multi-goal outing in the last five games. Jaelyn Clickscales and Evin Terzioglu each notched a hat trick and Hannah Smith added a single tally to round out the scoring for Irondequoit.
Senior goaltender Sophia Larson allowed nine goals on 16 shots-against for a .440 save percentage to extend her personal win streak to five games.
HFL was led by a six-point night from top scorer and junior midfielder Whitley Easton, who scored three times and added three assists, while senior midfielder Emma Calcagni and freshman midfielder Adams Paige each scored twice in the loss. The Cougars fall to 5-6 on the season.
The opening half featured several lead changes after a back-and-forth flurry of goals between the two teams with HFL scoring twice in the early minutes of the contest to take a 2-0 lead. The Cougars then held a 5-4 advantage midway through the frame, but a three-goal run by Irondequoit would give them a 7-5 cushion heading into the half.
The Eagles carried the momentum into the second, scoring four more unanswered goals to ultimately put the game out of reach and take an 11-5, marking their largest lead of the night.
The two teams exchanged four more goals each later in the frame and at the final horn it was Irondequoit prevailing with a 15-9 victory to extend its win streak to five games.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday, May 27 as the Eagles look to make it six in a row when they host Eastridge in the battle of Irondequoit while HFL hosts Spencerport.
