Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has re-signed forward Austin Hasen to a two-year contract, pending league approval.
Hasen, 22, returns to Rochester for his second season having spent the 2022-23 campaign with the Knighthawks. As a rookie, he posted four goals and 21 assists for 25 points as he appeared in all 18 games. Additionally, he gathered one loose ball to go with an assist in the team’s first-ever playoff berth.
He was named the NLL’s Rookie of the Week for Week 1 after scoring twice and recovering four loose balls in his professional debut against the Georgia Swarm on Dec. 3, 2022.
Prior to turning pro, Hasen, the son of Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen, completed a four-year collegiate career at Belmont Abbey College, totaling 154 points (113+41) and 45 groundballs in 51 games. He finished his senior season with the Crusaders in 2022 with career-highs in goals (41), assists (17) and points (58) while starting all 15 games and was named the 2022 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year. He also had seven caused turnovers and 14 groundballs, earning him a spot in the 2022 USILA Senior All-Star Game.
A native of Brampton, Ontario, Hasen recently completed his second season with the Peterborough Lakers of Major Series Lacrosse, notching 43 points on 12 goals and 31 assists in 16 games. He ranked seventh and ninth in assists and points, respectively, amongst the league’s players. Last summer, he led the Lakers to their fourth straight Mann Cup.
He also played five seasons of Junior ‘A’ ball with his hometown Brampton Excelsiors, recording 207 points (105+102) over 69 career games as well as 66 points (28+38) in 30 playoff appearances. He was an OLA Junior A Second Team All-Star selection following the 2019 season.
Internationally, Hasen won a gold medal representing Team Canada at the 2019 World Junior Lacrosse championship.
Hasen was Rochester’s second-round selection (18th overall) in the 2022 NLL Entry Draft.
