Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has signed defenseman Ethan Riggs to a one-year deal for the remainder of the 2024-25 National Lacrosse League season, pending league approval.
Riggs, who has been assigned to the practice squad, joins the Knighthawks after spending the last three seasons with the NLL’s Georgia Swarm. In 47 career games with Georgia since joining the Swarm prior to the 2021-22 campaign, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenseman has gathered 49 loose ball recoveries and seven caused turnovers while piling up 28 penalty minutes.
Prior to making the jump the NLL, Riggs played parts of three seasons in the Arena Lacrosse League with the Peterborough Timbermen, recording eight points and 22 penalty minutes in 21 career games. He was drafted by the Timbermen in the fifth round (29th overall) of the 2018 ALL Entry Draft.
In 2019, Riggs played his only season of Junior ‘A’ ball with the Burlington Chiefs, notching three assists and 31 penalty minutes en route to earning Rookie of the Year honors.
Internationally, Riggs won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Lacrosse Championship.
A native of Dundas, Ontario, Riggs was drafted in the first round (11th overall) of the 2020 NLL Entry Draft by the Halifax Thunderbirds.
