Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has signed forwards Trent Boyd and Daire Newbrough to two-year contracts, pending league approval.
Boyd, 25, joins the Knighthawks having posted 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points in 13 combined games with the Whitby Steelhawks of the Arena Lacrosse League (ALL) and the Senior ‘B’ Clearview Crushers of Ontario Series Lacrosse.
He finished the regular season sixth in the ALL in scoring and tied for sixth and seventh in assists and goals, respectively. Boyd helped the Steelhawks reach the ALL Finals by totaling eight goals and four assists in two postseason contests.
The Orillia, Ontario, native was named to the ALL-East All-Rookie First Team following the 2022 campaign.
In his first season in Ontario Series Lacrosse in 2019, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound forward registered seven goals and three assists in 10 games with the Brooklin Merchants.
Boyd also recorded 251 points on 158 goals and 93 assists over 92 games between the Green Gaels and Orillia Kings (Junior ‘B’) from 2014-18. Additionally, he totaled 39 points (18+21) in 20 postseason contests with the two clubs.
Newbrough, 23, joins the Knighthawks after appearing in 21 career games at St. Bonaventure University (NCAA), where he finished with two points (0+2) and 26 groundball recoveries from 2019-2021.
Before joining the Bonnies, the Kitchener, Ontario, native combined to produce 10 goals and 34 assists for 44 points in 60 games between the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves and Guelph Regals of the Ontario Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse League. Additionally, Newbrough logged five points (4+1) in five playoff games with the two clubs.
In his first season with the Regals, he tied for sixth and seventh among all Guelph forwards with a career-high 16 assists and 21 points, respectively, in 2016.
Originally a fifth-round selection (68th overall) by the Calgary Roughnecks in the 2021 NLL Entry League, Newbrough was the first-ever player St. Bonaventure graduate to be selected in the NLL Entry Draft.
Internationally, he helped Team Canada win the Brogden Cup in 2016, defeating the United States in the annual event.
