Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has signed forward Nicholas Miller to a two-year contract, pending league approval.
A native of Ithaca, N.Y., Miller is the most decorated player to come out of Division III St. John Fisher University, where he amassed a school-record 365 points on 240 goals and 125 assists while starting in 75 of his 78 career games with the Cardinals from 2018 to 2022. Miller led the team to a pair of Empire 8 championships in 2019 and 2021, the second of which he was named the Most Valuable Player for after leading the Cardinals to a 20-9 win over Nazareth College in the title game.
A three-time Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection, Miller topped the 100-point mark twice, including this past season when he scored 60 goals to go along with a career-high 49 assists and 50 ground balls as a fifth-year graduate student. He posted multi-point efforts in every game he appeared in, including 18 outings with at least four points. Miller also added seven points in both Empire 8 Tournament games en route to earning Empire 8 All-Tournament Team honors.
A three-time USILA All-America honoree, Miller had a record-breaking season in 2021, becoming Fisher’s all-time leading scorer with 180 goals and 256 points. He would later be named the Empire 8 Championship’s Most Valuable Player following a 45-goal campaign during the regular season.
After posting 54 points and garnering Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team accolades during his breakout freshman season in 2018, Miller fueled the Cardinals’ first-ever Empire 8 Championship run in 2019 after setting single-season records for goals (82) and points (114) while also adding 32 assists. The attackman led the entire Conference in goals, points and shots and was twice named the Empire 8 Player of the Week.
Prior to attending St. John Fisher University, was a three-sport student-athlete in lacrosse, hockey and golf.
As a senior, Miller earned NYSSWA All-State Third Team and US Lacosse All-America honors and was also a three-year Tony Cullen Award winner as the best offensive lacrosse player from 2015 to 2017. He was a three-time Section IV All-Star for lacrosse, leading the team to a Section IV championship as a senior. In golf, Miller was a three-time All-Conference selection and won the individual Southern Tier Athletic Conference (STAC) championship.
Miller is also a product of the Upstate Collegiate Box Lacrosse League, where he was a member of the Hawkeyes from 2021 to 2022. He was the first player in league history to eclipse the 100-point plateau.
Miller led the UCBLL in 2022 with 32 assists and 54 points in nine games and was named the Duane “Dewey” Jacobs Most Valuable Player for the Hawkeyes. He also earned First Team All-UCBLL honors. He led the Hawkeyes to their first Mearns Cup championship and a berth in the National Collegiate Box Series (NCBS) National Championship.
Miller, a fourth-round pick (62nd overall) of the Buffalo Bandits in the 2021 NLL Entry Draft, becomes the second St. John Fisher University standout to sign with the Knighthawks, joining Canandaigua native and face-off specialist Joe Post.
